Virasat
– The History Club of St. Columba’s School had the privilege of hosting Ms.
Tiya Chatterji, a renowned marine archaeologist, author, and entrepreneur, on
18th November, 2025 for an enriching interactive session with our
students.
Ms.
Chatterji, whose work spans underwater archaeology, maritime heritage, and
creative research, captivated the audience with stories drawn from her
expeditions, discoveries, and scholarly experiences. She has authored three
books, including Underwater Archaeology in India: The Lost Enigma and Horrors
of the Sea, and co-authored a volume on space warfare with Paul Szymanski. As
the founder of Archaic Minds, she leads innovative work at the intersection of
academic research, heritage communication, and documentary production.
During
the session, Ms. Tiya introduced students to the fascinating world beneath the
oceans—shipwrecks, submerged civilizations, and the science behind maritime
excavations. She also shared insights from her tenure with the Indian Naval
History Division, where she contributed to a decade-long historical
documentation project, and spoke about her ongoing collaborations with the
Indian Armed Forces on maritime heritage and strategic culture.
The
students were thoroughly engaged, asking thoughtful questions and expressing
great curiosity about the field. Ms. Chatterji’s clarity, passion and immersive
storytelling left a deep impression on our young historians and explorers.
We
extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Tiya Chatterji for inspiring the members
of Virasat and opening their minds to a world of history hidden beneath the
waves.
