The Social Justice Team and the Eco Club of the Middle School of St. Columba’s School organized Panchatatva Week with great enthusiasm
and purpose, paying homage to the five elements of nature: Earth, Water, Fire,
Air, and Space. The week-long celebration aimed to deepen students’
understanding of the vital role these elements play in sustaining life and to
inspire them to protect and preserve our planet through mindful actions.
The
week commenced with the Recycling Mela,
an initiative encouraging students to donate old clothes, books, papers,
plastic items, and e-waste. Through the intercom
assembly, students were motivated to bring in items that are often
discarded at home on a daily basis. Four collection boxes were placed in the
foyer, and students responded with overwhelming participation. The drive served
as a reminder that recycling not only reduces waste but also conserves energy
and safeguards the Earth’s natural resources.
On 29th
October, students experienced the magic of creation through the Potter’s Wheel Activity. Three skilled
potters were stationed at three different venues and guided students as they
shaped clay into beautiful creations, symbolizing the nurturing power of the
Earth. Students from Classes 4 to 10 enjoyed the activity as they laid their
hands on the wheel with clay and shaped beautiful things, experiencing
firsthand the joy of creation and the wonder of working with the element Earth.
Simultaneously, a Poster-Making Activity was conducted during the activity
period, where students designed vibrant posters on themes like Save
Water, Say No to Plastics, and Trees Are Our Lifeline. Classrooms
came alive with colour and creativity, reflecting young minds’ concern for the
environment.
Continuing
the spirit of sustainability, students participated in the Best Out of Waste Activity, where they crafted eco-friendly paper
bags using old newspapers, magazines, and recycled materials. Each class
collected the bags, which were later donated to local vendors by student
representatives. This thoughtful gesture carried a powerful message that nothing is waste when reused with care and
creativity.
The
week concluded on 1st November with a heartwarming session titled “A
Leader with a Heart” for Class 10 students. The guest speaker, Brigadier Mudit Mahajan, delivered an
inspiring address that left a lasting impression on the young audience. He
spoke about the essence of true discipline and how it is reflected in the small
actions we take every day. As students grow up and pursue excellence in their
chosen fields, whether as lawyers, engineers, or professionals, it is the
little things that will truly distinguish them: dressing smartly, communicating
with grace, and carrying themselves with confidence. He encouraged students to
view challenges not as roadblocks but as opportunities to rise above fear,
strengthen their resolve, and emerge as capable, compassionate leaders.
The
Panchatatva Week celebration was not merely an event but a movement, inspiring
students to live harmoniously with nature and to carry forward the spirit of
sustainability, discipline, and purposeful leadership in their everyday lives.
