Living the
Mottainai Way: Class 6B’s Lesson in Mindful Living
On October 25, 2025, Class 6B
presented a thoughtful and inspiring morning assembly on the theme “Mottainai”,
a Japanese term that reminds us to value and respect all resources and ensure
that nothing goes to waste.
The assembly began with a warm
welcome and an introduction to the meaning of Mottainai, beautifully linking it
to the school’s annual theme of Peace and Harmony and the values of Blessed
Edmund Rice, which emphasize simplicity, compassion, and justice.
Through reflections and
presentations, the students explained the deeper essence of Mottainai — more
than just a word, it represents a mindful way of living that encourages
everyone to reduce, reuse, recycle, and, most importantly, respect. The message
inspired the audience to use resources wisely, repair what is broken, share
with others, and express gratitude for even the simplest things.
The highlight of the assembly was
a short skit titled “The Spark Within”, which conveyed that even the smallest,
mindful actions can ignite powerful change — much like a single spark lighting
up the sky. The performance concluded with a lively dance to “Firework”,
symbolizing how each individual can shine through responsible and conscious
living.
In the concluding segment, the
comperes reminded the audience that by living the Mottainai way, we follow the
example of Blessed Edmund Rice and help build a world rooted in peace and
harmony. The assembly ended with words of encouragement from Brother Agnelo
Benjamin, the Christian Brothers Community Leader, and the singing of the
School Anthem.
