Description:
St. Columba’s School celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with a special assembly that brought together students from the Junior, Middle and Senior Wings. The programme was a vibrant celebration of India’s freedom, unity in diversity, patriotism and the responsibilities that come with being citizens of a free nation.

The Junior Wing presented a series of engaging acts highlighting the values of religious harmony, respect and equality. Another powerful presentation traced the journey of independent India, from the dreams and sacrifices of our freedom fighters to the hopes and aspirations of today’s children. The performances beautifully conveyed the message of unity, harmony and patriotism.

The Middle School presented a stirring poem titled “Mera Bharat, Mera Garv”, celebrating the many achievements and qualities that make India a nation to be proud of. This was followed by a thought-provoking skit that explored the relationship between rights and duties, reminding everyone that responsible citizenship lies at the heart of a strong democracy. A graceful dance performance by the Middle School dancers added colour and energy to the celebration. The segment concluded with a melodious medley of patriotic songs that touched the hearts of the audience.

The Senior Wing presented a thought-provoking mime depicting significant events and achievements that have shaped India’s history. This was followed by a soulful song by the Senior School boys, presented in five different languages, bringing the essence of unity in diversity vividly to life. The final dance performance filled the gathering with a powerful sense of patriotism and love for the nation.

The programme concluded with an inspiring address by the Principal, who reminded the students that freedom is not merely a privilege but also a responsibility. The address focused on what it truly means to be a citizen of a free nation and urged everyone to uphold the values of equality, respect, responsibility and compassion in everyday life.

The special assembly was a fitting tribute to the spirit of India, free in thought, united in diversity and committed to building a better nation together.
