Topic- Dyslexia Awareness Week- Junior School
Date-13th-17th October 2025
Theme: Inclusion begins with understanding
“It’s not a bad thing to be different. Sometimes, it’s the mark of being very, very talented.” — Rick Riordan
With this inspiring thought at its core, St. Columba’s Junior Wing observed Dyslexia Awareness Week from October 13–17, 2025, with warmth, empathy, and a strong spirit of inclusion. The initiative sought to dispel myths, foster understanding, and celebrate the unique strengths of children who learn differently.
An enriching workshop, conducted by the Special Educators for the Junior School teachers, focused on breaking misconceptions about dyslexia and sharing inclusive classroom strategies. The teachers proudly wore red—the global colour for dyslexia awareness—symbolizing unity and support for neurodiversity.
In classrooms, students participated in engaging and thoughtful activities. Students of Class 1 joyfully shared positive affirmations about themselves, building confidence and self-belief. In Class 2, the boys identified their personal “superpower” on colourful brain-shaped cutouts, celebrating their unique strengths. Meanwhile, the students of Class 3 wrote thoughtful messages on heart-shaped cutouts, expressing ways to be kind, understanding, and supportive friends to peers who learn differently.
The week served as a meaningful reminder that being different is not a limitation but a celebration of individuality and talent. Through these activities, the Junior Wing reinforced its belief that every child is capable, creative, and extraordinary in their own way.
