Description:
Lao Tzu has rightly said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” No matter how daunting the journey may seem, courage lies in taking that first step towards it.
The Middle Section at St. Columba’s School reached the culmination of its steps on the 23rd and 24th of October 2024 in the form of its first ever inter-school Fest - MÉLANGE. Designed with a view to cultivate camaraderie among schools and encourage multiple intelligences, Mélange had in store something for students with diverse preferences. The Fest spanned two days - 23rd and 24th of October. There was an enthusiastic response from various renowned schools across the city resulting in the campus brimming with energy.
The first day’s events initiated with an Opening ceremony which had the lighting of the lamp followed by a prayer dance and a word regarding the event protocol and guidelines for participants and teachers. The dignitaries present during the ceremony were our esteemed principal, Brother Robert Fernandes; our PLT member, Brother Joe along with Brother Jerome Manuel; Brother Sabino D’souza and the three heads. As soon as the ceremony concluded, the events had an energetic kickstart. There were four events on the first day - Language Luminaries; Culinary Chronicles; Knowledge Knockout and TechA’thon focusing on the English language skills; culinary expertise; quizzing prowess and computer knowledge, respectively. The second day had three events lined up - Rasanubhuti; Elevate and Create and Musical Odyssey providing a platform for the showcase of students’ Hindi language expertise; artistic dexterity and musical flair respectively.
There were subcategories to all the events, based on class grouping. The results were shared right after each subcategory reached its conclusion. The proud winners received a shining medal and a certificate speaking of their hardwork. All the other participants shall receive a participatory E-certificate. The activities commenced from 8 in the morning and continued roughly till half past Noon. After the strenuous work and immensely dedicated display of talents over the two days, Mélange reached its closure with the closing ceremony which reinvigorated the spirits with a dance performance followed by the declaration of the overall winner’s name, based on the maximum positions achieved. The overall trophy was bagged by Mount Carmel School. The ceremony concluded with sharing of the vote of thanks by the Middle school headmistress, Mrs. Aparajita Pal and Brother Robert’s declaration of the Fest’s closure.
Being the host school, we ensured that in all the events when our students held a position, it was shared with the next school in line, thereby celebrating the achievement of the next rank holder too. Our participants and teachers alike didn’t get a moment of dullness as their strain was intermittently diffused with some vibrant dance performances and nukkad natak, giving them the much needed refreshment.
Mélange had, in its core, the memory of late Brother Eric Steve D’souza who left us for his heavenly abode earlier this month. The Fest has been dedicated in his name and will continue to be, as the overall trophy is now lovingly called ‘Brother Eric Steve D’souza Trophy’. Finally, with our eyes packed with numerous memorable stills and hearts full of joy, we concluded the Fest with a resounding rendition of our school anthem. Until next time …
